Yankees Late Magic Results in an 8-4 Win

Despite trailing in most of the series against the Tampa Bay Rays, the Yankees found their bats in the third game of their first regular season series. In the first two games of the series, the New York Yankees were outscored 15-4, struggling to capitalize with runners in scoring position.

Following a two run home run from Zunino, the Yankees found themselves down 0-2. The next inning, the Yankees caught a spark from Gio Urshela who put the Yankees on the board with a 2-run home run to deep center. This tied the game at two runs a piece. The Yankees were able to load the bases, with Gardner, LaMahieu and Judge on. Aaron Judge came up to bat with bases loaded no outs. After battling a couple pitches, Hicks grounded into a double play. Though the double play was turned, the Yankees were able to put another run on the board, taking a 3-2 over the Rays.

It did not take the Tampa Bay Rays long to punch back, in the bottom of the third, Randy Arozarena slammed a two run home run to deep right field. The Yankees found themselves trailing 3-4.

The Yankees were able to put runners on but could not score, missing multiple opportunities with runners in scoring position. In the top of the 8th inning, the Yankees were finally able to put another run on the board with a base hit from Gleyber Torres, scoring Aaron Judge. This single tied the game up at 4 a piece.

The Rays were unable to score before the game was taken into extra innings. Extra innings was all Yankees in terms of scoring. Though the Bronx Bombers found themselves in a 2 out whole, the newly acquired Yankee was able to give the Yankees the spark they needed. With two on base, a single from Odor punched in a run from Hicks. New York took a 5-4 lead. Following Odor’s base hit, Gary Sanchez sent a line drive to center field, scoring Gleyber Torres and moving Odor to second base. The runs didn't stop there for New York. Urshela stepped up to bat with two runners on. He then singled to right field and following an error from Margot, Urshela was able to make it to third base off the single, which scored both Odor and Sanchez. The Yankees took an 8-4 lead heading into the bottom of the 10th.

The Yankees were able to hold the Rays run less in the bottom of the 10th and won the game by a final score of 8-4. The Yankees did loseYankees Late Magic Results in an 8-4 Win this series 1-2 but will look to take this momentum into their next series against the Toronto Blue Jays. Gerrit Cole will be on the mound on Monday for the Yankees. Cole is currently 1-0 on the season and will look to give the Yankees another win and even their record up at 5-5.
